I personally believe that a lot of it is scare mongering, to keep reminding us that the UK was right to go to war against Iraq and terrorism.
You only have to go back a few years to remember that at the height of the IRA bombings, London was being targeted on an almost weekly basis. So what does that tell us? That Mi5 have become better at counter terrorism and infiltrated more terrorist cells? I don't think so. In the political world of ever shrinking budgets, it is more likely a ploy by Mi5 to increase its budget.

The UK is home to many Muslims who have misguided views and have become radicalised by terrorist groups based in Pakistan and elsewhere. These misguided fools actually believe that it will be possible for them to change the world by blowing themselves up! blowing other up! in vile acts of terrorism..
In the the mid 70ies A politician called Enoch Powell predicted that there would be trouble if Asian immigration continued unchecked!.. He was pilloried at the time by very nearly everyone !.. His views about immigration have come true, and so now we have the situation where young English Muslims are actually taking up arms against the country that have given so much!.
If you want to blame anyone for the present situation then it should be Harold Wilson, Jim Callahan, Micheal foot, and other labour politicians along with many conservatives MP.s of the time for not heeding Powell's views .

Do you believe it ? The head of M.I.5 is by definition a man of secrecy and subterfuge, he guards secrets and acts on the governments whim.
It is impossible to comment on something we are told might be happening in the future. We are fighting very unpopular wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, many want the soldiers to come home, but the government have made commitments to their international friends. The best way to gain popular support is to cause fear amongst the public, to make us feel hatred towards our supposed enemy and stand behind `our troops`.
It is all too easy to say `Oh.. I have foiled a plot` and their lackeys in the press will plaster it all over the front and middle pages, carefully avoiding the naked women, pro-celebrity dancing cooks and football results and scare the gullible into shouting `hooray for England and all her chums`. You need absolutely no evidence to say you have stopped something that might happen at some time in the future.

Yes, and the head of MI5 would know since all the so-called "Terror Cells" are MI5 and MI6 agents! Look at the 7/7 bombers...look at the Madrid Bombers; they worked for the Spanish military intelligence! Watch the documentary "Terrorstorm" (Google Video or amazon.com) and see for yourself!

The Blair generation (baby-boomers, '68ers, etc) has destroyed respect for Western civilisation and left in its place the worst of bread-and-circus populism.
Now they are being forced to deal with the situation -- and making an even bigger mess of it.
The political vacuum they caused has been filled with the most destructive forces, and the Rubicon has already been crossed.
Anything now is "too little, too late".
