yes, some antibodies will die. but most will live and frozen breastmilk (no longer than 3 months in the back of the freezer) is still better than formula. so you go gurl. you freeze that milk and you feed it to yo baby. fight the powers that be working moms unite.

Well, I dont think you really have much of a choice if you are a working mom. You could try to freeze just the minimum amt needed for bottles and keep as much as possible refrigerated for the 48hrs it is considered still 'good', but I wouldnt worry too much about this if I were you. Being a stay at home mom I was lucky not to have to worry about this, but you are doing your child an amazing service by giving EBM - even if some of the antibodies are lost through freezing. I never actually read an article talking about freezing EBM, but I have read never to put EBM in the microwave as that can kill the nutrients in it (like with a lot of food). Heat it up in a bowl of hot water instead. Dont feel bad at all - congratulate yourself for continuing to give your baby the best milk out there. Frozen BM is still a lot better than formula!

Fresh breast milk contains the most active anti-infective properties, followed by refrigerated, and then frozen breast milk. in order to preserve its antioxidant content, expressed breast milk should be stored no longer than 48 hours at refrigerator temperature, and that it should not be frozen.

According to my lactation consultant breastmilk can be frozen up to 6 months and it is still good. My son was a preemie and could only have sugar water in his feeding tube for the first week he was in NICU, so I pumped and froze the breastmilk. He is now a completely healthy 2 year-old and has only had a couple of minor colds and a couple of ear infections.

its okay for a little bit as long as it isnt frozen longer than recommended and yes some antibodies are killed but its a lot better than formula. also never microwave your milk either it kills antibodies and leaves "hot spots" that can burn your baby
