So my guy friend has this job that he started not to long ago and suddenly one day he just wasn't scheduled for the next week, or the week after that. And after about 2 weeks it was pretty obvious he didn't work there I think. But is it really legal for an emplyer to fire someone without telling them they're fired? Like just not schedule them for work, not talk to them, ect.?

Well, it is not really professional. Unless the friend wants to file a lawsuit, he will just have to accept the situation and move on.

Is your friend a permanent staff and did he sign any contract? If he is on a freelance basis, the boss can don't call him up if there is no suitable job for him.

Your manager is a coward.
Bad business.
I'd be afraid they would do the same to me too.
