You've kind of answered your own question - when they take over smaller businesses, it's the death knell for that business. It's not Walmart per se, it's the swallowing up of the little guy they hate, if indeed they do hate Walmart.
Democracy should be inclusive, not exclusive. Large corporations like Walmart do not allow family or small business to get a foothold in the market, nor is there the opportunity for any originality when the stores are cookie-cutter.

It is because Walmart is the worse corporations employer out there! They don't treat their employees that well. The average employee doesn't get benefits, they're overworked, can't join unions, and above all they get really crappy pay!
Democrats want to push for higher minimum wages for everyone and with a corporation like Walmart, it just makes it harder because people who are desperate for jobs will work there and take whatever Walmart dishes out!
Walmart is cheap, but terrible to employees. Their logo is the "smiley face" symbol but I think it belongs more to Costco. They're cheap like Walmart (although you buy in bulk but the savings go a long way right?), they have better employers that offer benefits, like health coverage, and above all they pay their employees well. All of them, inspite of what position of the store they work as.

I don't think it's *just* Wal-mart as a company. It's what it does to a community (closing small businesses), paying the minimum amount to employees and/or not offering enough hours to live off of, destruction of a community on an economic level, the onslaught of just a dirty area - have you looked around a Wal-mart area lately. Unless it's a brand new store - it's just filthy. Also if Wal-mart ever closed it would leave HUGE box stores all over the country. For example in my area there are 4 very large Wal-marts within 15 min of my house - that is overkill.

Don't really know that democrats are so disenamored of Wal-Mart? Maybe it's because of all the foreign goods they sell (particularly Chinese)
Isn't it odd how corporate policies can flip-flop with time? Back in the early 1980's Wal-Mart had a highly-advertised "BUY AMERICA" campaign going on. At least they did in their store in Alvin, Texas.
Does this demonstrate that loyalty is dictated by the bottom line? Maybe you should direct your query to the Waltons.....

Kidding me?? I'm a Rep and I'm strongly against Walmart. Seriously, they threaten other corporations to make their things cheaper so all of them have to move to China. That's freaking ludacris.
But I like the low, low prices...: )
MUST STAY FOCUSED!

It is owned and run and all products there are from other countries. Maybe the dems are angry because they helped all of OUR companies and jobs to go over seas.
another note 97% of the JCPENNY product catalog is items made in China... I don't like that.
Capitalism is another name for greed.
