Submitting your site to a search engine is not good enough. You may be ranked 24,537th search result for your desired keyword. You need to look into the following:

- Good, relevant and rich content
- Strategized the keywords that should drive traffic to your site. Use these keywords. There are tools that shows how under/over used these keywords are in search engine queries.
- Have constantly updated/new content
- You web site needs to be friendly towards search engine robots. Use standard HTML tags with proper and meaningful headers and titles. Avoid using flash and javascripting for your internal links and navigation
- Get as many reputable sites/directories to link to you
- Publicise your links in forums (search engines can pick this up too)
- And submit you site to search engines and directory listings

This is called search engine optimization (SEO). Its an art. You might want to engage an experienced webmaster trained on SEO to do it for you.
