If you have or can upgrade to 128 MB of RAM or above than install XP if you just have 64 or lower install 98SE. If you think XP won't run on a p2 300 machine you are very wrong. In fact I used XP on a similar IBM laptop for over a year with no problems and XP's driver support is way better so if you can upgrade do it. The minimum requirements are 266mhz 64ram but i can tell you that the ram will make it slow.

Don't use ME. NEVER. It's windows 98 with driver problems. You can install win98 drivers but they can still crash for no reason. Oh and it takes up 700 MB for a full install versus the 250 MB that windows 98 needs.
So what have we learned today?

DO NOT USE WINDOWS MILLENIUM AS IT IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

:D

Hope I managed to awaken a bit of ME hatred in you. Helping answer the question would be a nice bonus.

I think so, absolutely, Windows 98 Second Edition is far better than ME. 98 is lot less buggy than ME.

If you want to play Diablo 2 online in Windows ME, you should try using the Win98 Xircom Drivers on your Windows ME. Most of the time, Win98 drivers CAN AND WILL work in Windows ME.

Happy Gaming!

Frankly, Windows 98 SE was more stable than ME...although neither are preferable.

If you want Windows of that era, I strongly recommend Windows NT 4 with latest Server Pack, or even Windows 2000, if you can get your hands on a copy! The professional network/server line of Windows OSs were always more powerful and stable.

Windows ME is pretty much the biggest joke among computer people in existence. Nah, that's exaggerating, but it does suck. Yes, downgrade to 98.

i am not a guru, but I wanted WIN98 on a new computer and was not happy that I got WIN ME - until I learned that the processor had to have ME to work

You may may not be able to run your item with 98 due to its processor, even though the program needs it

sorry
