There are many secret societies in the US. Several people in my family belong to them. But if you're talking about conspiracy theories (the country being run by the Illuminati, Bilderbergers, Skull & Bones, etc), you'll find debates on either side.

There is a group here in the U.S. which dates back to Thomas Jefferson called the Freemasons, which is still active today. Also, the Skull and Bones movie was about a real secret society.
Anyone who is any kind of position of power (top 1%) is probably a member.
