Oh, I love this question. When I was a senior in high school, our Spanish teacher got us interested in pen pals. I chose one from Honduras. We wrote back and forth only a few times. Then, one day, out of the blue, a girl from Tokyo wrote ME a letter, introducing herself. SHE picked ME. We wrote for about three or four years and I have all the letters she wrote me and most of the stuff she sent me, (what would fit anyway) in two large photo albums. That was over 25 years ago. How much do you think the postage stamps would be worth now?

I started pen palling when I was 11. I don't remember how many I had, but my first one was a distant cousin of mine in Missouri (I am in Oregon). I now have a few pen pals and have always had them (I am 41 now).

I believe I was about 11. I had two pen-pals, one from New York, and one from Germany. I met the one from New York.

When I was young , there was a show called BIG BLUE MARBLE. That meant the entire earth. They gave an address to write for penpals. I had at least three. One in California I wrote for a long time. One guy in Malaysia who sent me a piece of their money and I sent him a dollar bill. We traded pix. A girl from Barbados wrote a lot until she thought we were rich enough to bring her to America. Funny, my sister went to England to meet her internet friend and my sister paid her own way!

1) I think I was about twelve or so. Saw a penpal advertisement in an issue of J-14 (I think that's what it's called). Hah.
2.) I had two, both from Canada.

yeah i had a pen pal.i was like 10 years old.she was 15 and she was from puerto rico,wich is where im from.bt she lived like 5 cities away from me.

1. I was 14, when one of my buddies moved to California from Texas and we kept in touch by writing to each other, now we are both in our thirties we keep in touch "via email", isn't technology grand.
