In short, no, the praying mantis are not poisonous. They do have sharp spikes on their forelegs which they can use to strike with if harassed. For the most part, they are pretty safe to handle. If you notice them standing on their back legs and getting into a defensive position, then you know are they getting ready to strike.

I have never heard of a poisonous praying mantis. Our cats eat them all the time (when they can catch one). I did some research and actually found a couple of sites talking about this those. They only mention it, but I guess they would not need to go into detail about something not being poisonous.

(Only a mention, and to say they are not poisonous)

(Once again, only a mention of no poison)

Now a blister beetle can poison a horse.

Farmers spray praying mantis with poison that does not harm the praying mantis but it will harm the bees and bugs the mantis touches with it forelimbs. In some places it is illegal to kill a praying mantis because they rely on these bugs to kill harmful pests that destroy their crops.

It says here;

that your specific species of mantis only lives in humid jungles ... where the heck do you LIVE if a horse might EAT one????

Anyway, I've NEVER heard of any mantis being toxic ... birds eat them frequently, and you don't see loads of dead birds on the ground..!

Only if you eat one xD But they eat each other and don't die...except for the one who was eaten.

They are not poisonous. If they were then they would have no need to hide around and have great camouflage to protect themselves!
