My birthday is in 3 weeks and I asked for a new iPod. Well, I got my present early, and it was not an iPod. It is an mp3 player that looks like an iPod kind of. My mom claims that she thought it was an iPod.
Anyway....
the iPod I wanted was a 2GB silver for 150 dollars
my mp3 player was 127 dollars, and is a video and mp3 player. But it only holds up to 7 music videos and 500 songs.
Is the mp3 player worth it? Is it just as good as the iPod? I think so. I mean, it is just like an iPod. Just a little different looking, but it is pretty much the same.

There are some advantages to the iPod and some advantages to MP3 players. My daughter has a video iPod, I have a Creative Zen MP3 player. The iPod has a better interface, interfaces with iTunes, and looks cool (plus hers has the ability to play videos; my Zen will STORE videos but I have to copy them to the computer to watch them.)
The real advantage to the iPod is one that may not apply to you -- the iPod has MUCH stronger aftermarket support, particularly when it comes to playing through car stereos (as well as in-home stereos). There are car stereo systems where you can plug the iPod in and use your in-car controls (including buttons on the steering wheel) to control your iPod -- select playlists, tracks, control volume, skip songs, etc. Since I use my MP3 player mainly in the car, I often wish I had an iPod -- but then I'd have to upgrade the car stereo.
So I run a cable from my MP3 to the car stereo and have to fiddle with the controls on the MP3 player to change tracks or pick a new playlist. I haven't crashed yet. :-)
Still, if the main thing you do is put on headphones and listen while you're walking, riding the bus, going to the gym, sitting in your room, your MP3 player will be just fine. I used mine all day yesterday -- long (10-hour) car trip. And I play it through the speakers on my home stereo as well.
A word of caution, though: do NOT buy songs on iTunes for your MP3 player -- they use a proprietary format that your MP3 player will NOT play. (It's like trying to play a PS2 game on an Xbox...) However, your MP3 player should have come with a CD-ROM that will let you convert your music CDs into MP3 files and then upload them to your MP3 player -- mine does. I almost never listen to CDs any more, they're nearly all on the MP3 player (or the computer)...
One final thing: I just checked, and my music library has 1672 songs and uses 7GB of space. So I did the math; your 2GB player will hold EITHER 7 music videos OR 500 songs, because 500 songs is about 2GB. However, I took a look at one of my longer playlists; it's got 142 songs in it and represents 9 hours of music (like I said, long road trips). You can probably get 30-35 CDs worth of music on your 2GB MP3 player. I'd say it's a good deal.

The 2GB iPods don't play video so the mp3 player you have already has the iPod you wanted beat. Chances are the storage capacity is bigger to not sure what you got but without know the specifics of what kind of mp3 player you got it is hard to determine if it is better than the iPod you really wanted.
One thing to note that I found out after having a Creative mp3 player and later getting an iPod was that iPod has the strong hold on the accessory market! I mean go into ANY electronics store and you will see thousands of "extras" that are made for iPods! Any other mp3 player and well..you can only hope to have 1 or 2 options for extras versus the iPods thousands of extras.
Heck even car manufactures are getting into the game..most newer cars now have some kind of iPod connector.
Bottom line is that if you really wanted an iPod just to have an iPod and you don't care about the technical stuff...take it back and get an iPod. If you do care about the technical stuff..do a comparison of the two to see which is better and go with the winner based on your needs.

i'd say it's better. the 2gb holds, around 500 songs too, but you said your mp3 play holds 7 music videos(lol oh wow). so even tho the only difference is the 7 music videos, it's still as good.
p.s. My birthday is close to yous. it's in 21 days :-)(not like i'm counting or anything >_><_< lol)

it was definatly worth it, you'll notice how it works just as well when the iPod costs $23 more, that $23 was for the iPod name, and not worth it
