Can i change processors?

Question

I have a E-Machines computer that has a Celeron D that runs at
1GHz. Ive been looking at a Celeron-D processor that runs at
3.33GHz. Could these be swapped?

My mistake, it just says Celeron.
The E-machines model is T1100

If you've got a 1ghz Celeron,,
that family of Celerons only goes to 1400ghz

Celerons,Tualatins,Pentium 3's

You need to know what model of Emachines.

Pentium III 1.4 server CPU's are considered fastest Socket 370
They can be found about $35

Celeron 1.4's can be had for $25 or so.

+40% / 400ghz is a decent jump up from a 1ghz cpu

Emachines are notorious for having small amount of RAM.
If you do wanna upgrade it,,,make sure RAM size is maxed out 1st

They usually can only take 512mb,,,2 x 256mb PC133 RAM.
You can find good "Dell Compaq HP" Ram on EBAY for
$20~25 per 256mb stick.

I might as well mention Video Cards.
Most 1ghz Emachines have built-in Graphics,,and no AGP slot for hi-performance Upgrade.
But you CAN upgrade to a PCI Vid Card---some strong ones available in 40~50$ range.

they not only boost graphics performance,,but reduce load on CPU & RAM

A $ 75~100~125 Upgrade wont put a 1ghz machine in the class of a 3.33Mhz job,,
but it IS a very substantial improvement in performance on avg 1ghz Emachine

There must be some mistake because there is no Celeron D that runs at 1GHz, perhaps it is just a plain Celeron. As people said, you would have to have the same socket. No 1Ghz Celeron uses the same socket as the 3.33Ghz Celeron D, so a swap would not be possible. If there was some type of typo, get email me and I will try to determine compatibility.

A jump that extreme is impossible. No way you can go from a 1Ghz to even a 2 ghz on an emachine. Newer mother boards like the Celeron D are compatible for both the celeron and pentium 4 chips, but again youre trying to do way too much with the 1.0.

Celerons are good for overclocking, but they tend to run hot. If i were you Id go to somewhere like pricewatch, hunt down a new motherbaord/cpu combo (with new motherboard cpu you will need different ram chips as well) or even pick up a barebones kits for a decent price, and just transfer al the components from your emachine to your newly built one. Wihtout O.S. upgrade, you could do this for about 150 including new ram. with holiday season coming about you should be able to do it for even cheaper than that.
good thing is you can get a decent speed processor for a good price -- and youll have way more RAM capacity than the 512 MB of PC133 ram that your emachine has -- and this will contribute to overall faster speed for you

I still have an emachine 1 ghz myself believe it or not. My back up back up computer thats come in handy more than once. I love it. Anyone who says enmachine are crap -- well know my die hard emachine out lived my hp, and keeps going and going and going. When my custom built machine goes crazy, I have old fatihful to get me on the internet to buy new parts when I need her

Yes you can IF your existing cpu has the same cpu socket as the 3.33ghz. Moreover, read your mobo specs if it can support the 3.33ghz cpu.
