I dont know a lot about taxes and all of that....but it just seems that they raise taxes on the wealthy and upper-middle class and give it to their funds for whoever the heck. I know some it goes to things like education, but others go to welfare and things under that genre. I just think it promotes laziness and instead of hard work. This is what it seems, can anybody explain it better?

Because they want everything paid for..they believe the government is like Mommy and Daddy; that the government should take care of everything. This idea presents problems, however, since where the money is spent becomes subjective. If everyone is created equal, then how can one decide who is more 'needy'? The democrats favor the poor. The rich already have money so they should share it with those who arent as 'lucky'. People abuse this idea. I have seen people sit at home collecting a govt check who have no intention of getting work. Another problem with this approach is that when you allow the government to pay for everything, you allow the government to have a 'say' in things. I digress. Taxes pay for this democratic idea. Basically, Republicans believe you need to work; smaller government. (If you worked hard and earned a good income, you shouldn't be penalized.) I can go on but I'm sure I will digress again.

Gonna be harder for the Democrats to raise taxes then they did in the past they allowed more moderate low tax people into the democrat camp that just hated Bush Foriegn policy mainly. The odds are the democrats will allow the capital gains cut, and most of the income tax cuts.
The democrats will have a libertarian wing now in the party since the republicans became too much like control freaks.
Raising taxes are deadweight to the economy, but remember polticians may cut taxes to generate more money to spend its called the lafftery curve to maxiuimize taxation and to maximuize money collected.
Welfare is only abused by 5% of the population, and the people on welfare 90% are off it within a year and a half.
The real goverment waste is pork project for hometown polticans that only benefit a few people.
We should promote workfare for fulltime workers is a better idea for people if thier wages fall below the proverty line to encourage work over welfare at every oppounity.
Education is good , but Education a lot of money is wasted. The return for higher ed gonna become lower and lower as years go by because the Chinese, and Indians be just as Educated Chinese and Indains will be one-third or less the cost. We gotta make discisions for the long term within the next 10 years to fund SS, and Medicare with what we got to work with, and possibly cut spending in Medicare, SS benefits to shore up the system tough disicisions will have to be made.

You are correct. My mom said they were doing the same thing back in the 1930s when she was a girl and it has always been their way.
Actually if you look at the national debt or budget deficit compared to the GNP it is not that bad. It is easiest to think of the economy as a person with a job and certain loans they owe on like their mortgage and car, that are long time debts. Credit cards ( or debts our country has to pay back that don't significantly help us ) are much more of a drain.
Republicans realize that the best way to have a better budget to loan status is to 1. make more money, ( increase numbers of jobs, numbers of producing businesses, have businesses make a better share of the global market ) 2. limit spending ( small government )
Taxes do not really help bring down debt from this perspective because they take away from #1 to pay #2. They do not increase #1 or decrease #2. Therefore they are not a good long term solution.

well... first off... things eventually get more expensive, so at times tax increases are needed... people want more services and more things done... and someone has to pay for it...

and if the people want a serivce and need a service, then that's fine...

welfare is more of an emergency help program for the most part (for people who get down on their luck for whatever reason and need a little money to get back on their feet). most states have limits on how long you can collect it and most people aren't on it for a very long period. Some states have more abuse than others though, but it's mainly a state by state issue...

I'll put it to you like this... first you get what you pay for...

look at states that have high tax rates, they almost always have above average educational systems... not always, but the vast majority of the time...

then look at states that have low overall tax rates... they have the worst education in the nation, the vast majority of the time...

which state would you rather raise kids in?

That is actually a false statement. Republicans have raised taxes as much as the Democrats. Remember, there is more taxation that merely income tax. Think of excise taxes, luxury taxes, etc. Both of these were signed into law by Republican Presidents

the US is in debt in the amount of $8,591,820,161,032.06 as of approx 5 minutes ago and increases by approx $2.04 Billion per day. let me repeat that ... $2.04 BILLION PER DAY

that's what happens when you start a very expensive war while at the same time cut taxes for the wealthiest 2% of the population, give Big Oil a tax free ride, don't bother with competitive bidding for government contracts, fail to have accountability in keeping track of all that money and hand out corporate welfare like it's candy on Halloween.

i guess it's one of those "ya can't have your cake and eat it too" kind of things.

PS. **sigh** remember when there was a budget surplus?

These taxaes pay for social programs that benefit the less fortunate. I'm not referring to welfare programs, but to programs that provide trade skills to the poor, food and education opportunities to those who can't afford it - from inner city kids to Appalacian families. Such programs provide funding to the Public Broadcasting System (PBS Television), the Peace Corps, etc. Generally, Democrats are stronger domestically, while Republicans funnel more money toward the militray and in dealing with world events. I don't mind paying a little bit more so long as the funds are used to make Americans stronger at home.

Because they believe in balanced budgets. It feels good in the short term to borrow a bunch of money, but in the long term it leads to inflation, a devalued currency and an ruined economy.

Many once superpowers have gone this route, starting with Spain in the 1500's, through France in the 1700's, to England in the 1900's to America today.

It is important to keep your nations books balanced, at least over the long term. Democrats understand this.

A better question to ask is how America is going to pay the 2 trillion dollars Bush wasted on Iraq without raising taxes. We gained nothing, yet burned everything in the treasury, not to mention he caused nearly 3000 KIA and 25000 wounded in action.
