They look nice, but other than that they don't do much. Despite the beliefs of most people here bubbling air through water is a poor way to aerate water. Most of the aeration occurs at the surface of the water. Anything that causes a current and creates water motion provides aeration. A good hanging tank filter produces more aeration that a bubbler. Of course a bubbler will disrupt the surface of the water, and aerate your water too.
The basic hanging tank filter, and undergravel filter are all you need. A corner/box filter might provide not surface distruption.

Simple answer is yes. The air bubbles help put oxygen into the water which is something the fish need.
When the fish swims water passes through its gills and fish take oxygen from the water.
Also another way to get air into the water is to use a filter at the top of the tank. The filtered water pours into the tank. It collects air on its trip drop into the tank.

Yes Bubbles are great. You can buy the little strips (Not sure what the correct name is for it) That will send little bubbles up from the gravel. My fish usually love to swim back and forth between the bubbles. It brings air to the water so they are able to breathe.
Good Luck!

they are very good.
they don't put air directly into the water, but help the nitrogen cycle as impurities are carried to the water surface and released into the atmosphere.
fish like to sometimes play in the bubbles.
if you have ever seen the movie "finding nemo" then you would have known that the answer is YES. remember bubbles the yellow fish in the aquarium?

Absolutely, without freshwater movement your water will become oxygen deprived. I have two air stones and it looks pretty. I had an old tank where the stone went out. My fish were at the top of the water almost with their mouths out of the water trying to get oxygen from the service. Don't put this off even one day your fish WILL die.
Good luck

Yes.
They need air in the water. In nature it is naturally added. In aquariums, you need to get special equipment to do it.
Your local pet store should be able to fill you in on whatever you need.
