Hope some of you are reading this!! Leave the red poppie alone it has been a symbol for as long as i can remember why change it to white??? Neutral i guess yes? Who cares this is Britain okay i am sick of making sacrifices for other cultures and races. We should be able to respect our dead with the red poppy not the white poppie to make others happy. Just answer me this Why would you want to change it?

The poppy symbolise (corn red poppy) a natural weed where our people fought espically in europe Flanders so maybe the last thing our men saw was the red poppy. Yes the poppy is a symbol not religious but why cant people just leave the colour alone

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
And in the sky, the lark
Still bravely singing flies
Scarce heard amongst tthe guns below
We are the dead
Short days ago we lived, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you from failing hand we throw,
The torch; be your to bear it high,
But if you break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields.
It was this poem that inspired the red poppy as a symbol of world wide rememberance of our glorious dead, a symbol which must never be changed.the red is for the blood they willingly gave so we might have a future. We should not break faith and change the colour of our poppies

The white poppies were started in 1993 by a women's guild in the UK it symbolised their commitment to work for peace. Now, I'm retired from the Canadian Air Force, I wear the red poppy and respect the sacrifices made by all military and civilian personnel. However, I also will respect the rights of people to wear the white poppy if it means working towards the end of ALL conflicts.
Nobody is trying to change anything, the red poppies are here to stay. It has nothing to do with other cultures or race.

I don't know about Britain, but here in Canada they people are wearing a white poppy to symbolize our soldiers who are currently at war. Most people who choose to wear the white Poppy still wear the red one as well.

These God Botherers say that red poppies symbolise redemption by death and war and that the white poppies symbolise redemption by Jesus. Hogwash! Red poppies are not a symbol of redemption, they are one of remembrance of the dead who gave their lives in an insane slaughter in Flanders fields. It is also to remember all other Brit and commonwealth troops who have died in war since.
These idiotic Xtians are just feeble minded and woolly headed with an obsession about effing Jesus. I see these numpties on the God channel and am consumed with nausea watching them. (Stopitt now Cybercommie, you will have apoplexy)

The RED poppy is the symbol of remembrance because the fields of Belgium were covered by RED poppies after the battles of WW1, brcause all the shelling brought the seeds to germinating depth.
The RED poppy must stay, it is RED for this symbolic reason.

Damn right - red poppies symbolise the men who sacrificed their lives for our freeom first time round in World War One - these were men who fought for our freedom under horrendous conditions that we cannot even imagine....
RED Poppies are an opportunity, once a year to pay our respects to those who protected our civil rights & teach our kids about history & how we are fortunate to live in the free society today that we are lucky enough to experience.
The idiots are who are trying to contest this are out of their new age, misplaced politically correct, unbelievable tiny minds.... shocking !!!

Something is clearly happening in the UK that's not happening here. We still use the red poppy to commemorate war dead on Anzac Day.
But is the colour worth getting so wound up about? Surely it's more important that you remember, regardless of the symbolism. IMHO.

I don't want a white poppy, either. Or a green one. Poppies are red, that's the way they are. The nutters of all religions make me sick too. So fkn self-righteous. Good question.

You are just being paranoid - both factions think God is on their side. The fact that much of the population is being oppressed by Assad is rather the key point - and the potential instability in the region is of global concern. Having travelled in Syria several years ago the idea that it is going to be ruined like the Lebanon is a cultural as well as human tragedy.
