May be your 02 sensor or EGR valve. You can take it to Auto Zone and they will hook up a scanner to see what it is. You can find out what code number it is with a paper clip. With the key on and engine off jumper the A&B terminals on the computer plug in under the dash on the drivers side. At first you should get a code twelve which is the check engine light flashing once with a pause and then twice. It should flash this code twelve 3 times and then it will start flashing the trouble code. For example a code 13 which would be one flash then a pause followed by three flashes would be the 02 sensor. A code 32 which would be three flashes, a pause, then two flashes would be the EGR valve. If it turns out to be your EGR valve I would recommend getting it at the dealer as they are negative back pressure where as the after market ones are positive backpressure for some reason.

The SES easy isn't on for no reason. As of 1996, GM began having the sunshine programmed to return on at 30k, 60k, and 90k miles. it would be a super help in case you are able to say what the codes have been. in case you have a Vortec engine working prosperous, the 850.00 value sounds approximately precise for an engine working prosperous, with a CFI injection equipment leak. What 12 months is the truck and what are the codes? i won't believe the quantity of folk answering your question, which of course lacks a intense quantity of suggestions on which to base an answer, assume a shop is making an attempt to tear you off. It sounds such as you had 2 codes for 2 oxygen sensors, as properly as a misfire. whether it somewhat is a random misfire, P0300, and additionally working prosperous, there's a particular probability which you have a Vortec engine with a CFI injection equipment, that's placed below the better plenum, and priced precise approximately 850.00 at a broker for areas and exertions. P0301,2,3, etc are misfires that specify the cylinder; P0301 cylinder #a million, P0302 cyl #2 etc.

it usually means the computer has encounter an emission problem check if your truck is fuel injection or carburetor if it is carburetor it must be the oxygen sensor on the exhaust pipe that's eather registering a rich or lean condition.....or there's an intermittent problem with your EGR system.
but if you have fuel injection you have an array of sensors ranging from O2sensor / coolant sensor / MAP sensor / TPS sensor / idle speed control / injectors / and so best way to find out is go to your auto parts store and buy the computer diagnostic codes book witch is not expensive britch A and B connectors on the diagnostic plug and read the flashes of the check engine ligth and replace what is wrong just follow the instructions they are very simple on those models .......good luck
