This question is asked in honor of Ed Bradley -- who probably deserves to be somewhere near the top of that list.

Most tv newscasters read stories given them by other reporters. Others simply report what others are reporting. Too many just say what they're supposed to say. Ed Bradley brought us stories that otherwise we would never have heard. That's true news. That's what journalists are supposed to be about.

What other names would you add to that list?

αΩ∞, good list. For the life of me, I cannot remember who Dennis Murphy is/was.

I've watched Anderson Cooper all this week -- and I'm about to be convinced that he may be more than a glib script-reader. Maybe. At least he's provided a balanced response to Election 'o6 for one busy traveler who hasn't had much time for print this week. Does he ever report? or only interview?

Marko F, yep, Bill Moyers ranks right up there with Edward R. Murrow in my book-- at the head of the list.

How can anyone ever forget the Master of them all, and my all-time favorite: "Edward R. Murrow" .. (in a class of his own)

And then there were/are others:

Dennis J. Murphy
Mike Wallace
Ed Bradley
Walter Cronkite
Dan Rather
Christiane Amanpour
John Chancellor
David Brinkley
Anderson Cooper

YES, Marko F is definitely correct: Eric Severeid and specially Bill Moyers should also be included on that list (my oversight, indeed).

As for Dennis Murphy here is a link:

P.S. Let's NOT forget Geraldo either! LOL LOL LOL

I agree with you. My mom was really sad today about his passing.

I would have to say that Anderson Cooper is a good reporter. If you know anything about his life, he was always determined to go out onto the field and report from the scene. He would go it alone when he first started off because he wanted to prove something. To this day, you will see AC 360 on CNN showing Anderson reporting from anywhere domestic to some of the more daring places of the Middle East.

I think he is a real inspiration and it has made me wonder if I would like to do something like that (only not actually be the reporter on the TV screen).

You should look up on his life, and he has just recently released a book about his life. I have not gotten to it yet, (I plan to eventually) but it should be interesting.

To the list provided by αΩ∞ above I would add Eric Severeid and Bill Moyers.

you have a element right here, yet judging by ability of a few replies you have disenchanted the immigrant community with a superbly useful question i think of the BBC have been asked by ability of the government to symbolize the ethnic communities, this has ended in mutton headed BBC types going heavily over the right. no person would desire to be blamed for thinking that the BBC is getting used to condition the British into "multiculturalism" somewhat a patronising insult for my area
