The only way for a doctor or sonographer to tell the sex is to actually see a penis on the ultrasoud. If they can't see the penis because the legs are closed or crossed then they can't tell if it is a boy or a girl. Even if it is a boy, if they just can't get a glimpse of the penis then they can accidentally call the boy a girl.

if 100 people shaved 'down' there.. and were told to sit naked with their legs crossed-- an you had to look at just their genital region with a black a white monitor-- would you be able to tell what ones were male and what ones were female?

God made girls with lace...he didn't have enough..so he left a little space.
God made boys with string....he had a little left over...so he made a little thing.
If they cannot see the crotch area its hard to determine if there is a penis or not.
