I think George Bush did a sacrifice bunt with Iraq. Since most of the world doesn't watch or play baseball, they don't understand why Bush did what he did. Now the Republicans have just one enemy dictatorship. Iran's government was democratically elected and is now surrounded by U.S. forces (Afganistan border's the east and Iraq borders the west). The U.S. navy is in the Gulf.
I like the original platform, rather than the Regan era platform of the Republican party.
1. Support the middle class. The middle class has been shrinking by both parties. This was originally done greatly lowering the number of low wage workers. The northern farmers were middle class and now it's just major corporations doing the farming by hiring people from Mexico for example. The Republican party was founded by Northern middle class farmers that complained that the Democrats were importing cheap labor (slaves) that would wipe out the Northern farmers' livelyhoods. The Republicans need to show a real plan to bring back the middle class.
2. Family values should be dropped. It was never defined and if defined it would require larger government. Remember that Republicans were always pro privacy (government interference in private lives was considered a bad idea by the Republican Party until the leadership went after the Conservative voters which greatly limits the number of voters) and lately the Republicans handed that platform over to the Democrats.
3. Republicans were isolationists before Regan and deeply complained about entering WWII and being in Vietnam (it was a Republican that pulled the troops out of Vietnam). To some extent you can still see that with the hatred of the UN and the idea of a world court. With Bush's sacrifice bunt, the U.S. is running out of military enemies.
4. I think Bush did well setting up more transparent capitalism, but I doubt the Republican party would want to end subsidies (steel and farm) and end the embargo on Cuba. The insurance companies have abused the capitalism system (for instance under paying or refusing to pay claims) for a long time and the Republicans need to get a platform together to handle that although I feel that we might end up with government rather than private insurance (as if anybody wants to work with something like FEMA).
5. Both sides are pro lobbyists. Something like $223 million was spend on this midterm election. With this congress breaking the record for the least amount of work days in a year, I think they should have the game plan set up as a launching pad for their careers rather than speaking to every lobbyist in town everytime a bill comes up. A senator should know immediately if his district needs a dam for example and should have heard all the sides before he or she ran. Instead they spend months months with lobbyists on both sides of the issue. This causes both parties to reduce time spent actually reading the bills. I heard once that a phone note was accidently dropped in the basket of proposed bills so they voted on a bill requiring John to call Jane. The Republicans should have set up a system so people know what they are voting for. Instead, these tiny mistakes are made into law.
6. I think Bush's biggest mistake was cronyism. He would have rather had a stupid Republican to run something like FEMA rather than a smart Democrat. I think Even Regan hired Democrats when he couldn't find smart Republicans.

a million. i think of you're at a loss for words. the chant is anti-vast government and a expert-Constitutional government (undergo in ideas "with the help of the human beings and for the human beings"? 2.did not you pay any interest to what befell this twelve months? The Democratics already voted in constrained get entry to healthcare that no person would be waiting to discover the money for. For some human beings, our rates jumped 40% through new mandate to amplify coverage to age 26 and not limits on finished care. 3. that is merely too stupid. 4. through fact 1960, tax gross sales has been approximately 20% GDP each twelve months. the difficulty isn't tax gross sales, that is spending. Obama's regime has taken spending previous our potential to an entire new point. increasing taxes and killing jobs will ordinary decrease tax gross sales (which back isn't the difficulty).

I just got done reading a great analylist along this line and it made me feel so good and gave me hope! It said the Demo's didn't win, the Republicans lost- the people didn't reward the Demo's but punished the Republicans. And he goes on to say pretty much what you said and added how the Republicans can win back what they lost- only about 40% of the voters voted- but they will have to get it togeather first. That this was just a wake up call and they will still be able to pull it off easily in 2008 if they do get in gear!

Gizmo, if those are the ideals of the Republican party, then they will never get it until they understand that those ideals are only important to Americans who already have good-paying jobs and can provide for their family.
For the rest of America, we want a government that understands that not everyone's biggest worry is high taxes. Instead many of us debate between paying for health care insurance or heating bills, or groceries.
Instead of worrying about border security and small government, we worry about who will raise our children when both mom and dad have to work, or when mom has to work because dad is not paying child support.
We worry about the fact that the federal poverty levels rise faster than wages. A person who heads a family of 4 must make $20,000 per year just to EQUAL the 2006 poverty level (source: Federal Register, Vol. 71, No. 15, January 24, 2006, pp. 3848-3849 at URL: http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/06poverty.shtml) (that is $9.62 per hour based upon a 40-hour work week). Try making that at the places that are doing the most hiring across the country.
When the Republicans truly understand the needs of these issues which are important to the working-class Americans, and work towards THESE family values, then and only then will the Republicans have a chance to win back the elections.

You forgot one quality that Reagan specialized in, homelessness in our major cities. And one third of them are Veterans of the Military, and many of them have war wounds, mostly emotional and psychological wounds. Check out the Streets of any major City in America. You will find Reagan's homeless and sick people who ended up on the street because of the changes in the tax codes.
Did the Grand Oil Party get the word? NO they got nothing! And nothing is not plenty, for the GOP.

No, they will not get the message, for they have lost sight of the goals that made the GOP a strong party.
Too much money, too many lobbyists

I must follow this up with a simple question: did you vote for Bush both times? If so, it's not the GOP's fault. It's yours.
You've supported the GOP moving away from what made them a great party. You've supported the quagmire that is Iraq. You've supported the Christian Evangelicals. You've supported the gorvernment's right to "get in our bedrooms" and tape our mouths shut. You've supported everything that is going wrong with this country.
Don't question the party you've put in power. They are YOUR elected officials.
