My teacher sat me next to my ex-best friend in one of my classes. It is very awkward. She usually says hi to me and I give her breif, polite answers to avoid confrontation, but it really bugs me having to be this close to her every day when I've been trying to forget her and move on. My life is so much better without her - she was a lousy friend and we couldn't understand each other anymore. How should I deal with her presence?

As hard as it may be what you are doing right now is very mature of you and a good way to handle it. If she should try and rekindle the friendship just tell her sorry, it is going to happen and that you are just being civil right now so that you don't come off as a bit ch.

just as you are. Polite and friendly but not too friendly. This is a problem you will have everywhere in life. It will happen at work too -some you like, others you don't - but have to work with them each day, all the same.
and there is sense inthe answer above - you could both benefit if you could be friendly enough, to learn from one another. Good social skill learning for the future.

I would not be able to concentrate in class, I would wait until the break and ask the teacher to change you around again, explain how things are with you and your ex friend and hopefully the teacher will be mature enough to understand.

Just keep it polite as you have been doing, you may want to forget her but while you are still in the same classes you will have to accept you will see her.

Take a knitting needle with you. Every time you feel bugged, give her a dig with it. You will feel so much better, hon!
