I am 26 year old male. Recently I moved to a city where my elder sister was staying. She is married and has one 4 year old kid. She is insisting me to stay at her apartment because it would be cheaper for us but I am feeling uncomfortable staying with a married couple. Its a very small two bedroom apartment and I feel its inconvenient for my sister and brother in law if I continue staying there. I don't how should I communicate this to her and convince her that its better if I stay on my own.

Perhaps it is a genuine relief for your sister financially, but I feel you should also involved your brother in law in this issue. Speak in private with him, ask him to be totally honest, assure him that you would prefer to stay on your own, but are willing to stay if he prefers it. That is if you are willing. If not, it's better to move out to your own apartment. In which case you can tell them upfront that you feel unconfortable.

Hope it works out for all of you!

I assume you and your sister are good friends as I am with mine. So, she will understand your concern, but will continue to be polite and swear you are no inconvenience at all. Therefore you must show that you are quite capable and should find your own accomodations as quickly as possible.

Tell her that although you appreciate the offer, you don't feel comfortable living with her and her family and that you are a grown man, who can make it on his own.
