So you want the white sand, palm tree and cheapo place to go during your Spring Break, right?

Well, the place to be USED to be Thailand, handsdown. But the "cheap" and "natural" kind of went away over the last 10 years. Don't get me wrong, you'll still find them there, but it's much tougher.

If you don't have a conscience, go to southern Myanmar. There are unspoiled beaches. By unspoiled, I mean no roads, no electricity, no government, nothing to buy... but exotic, you betcha. Safe? Yup. Close to nature? Doesn't get any more backward than Myanmar. Cheap? It's the only place I've been to where nobody in a village can break a 500 kyat note (about US$1), because it is too big. Once you get out of Yangon, you can live on the CHEAP there. Not too comfortable... but CHEAP.

After that, I am going to recommend Indonesia. You can find some fantastic, inexpensive beach on the southern part of Java or Kalimantan, the northern part of Bali or just about anywhere on Lombok. The place is loaded with white beaches.

Not that fired up to go to Indonesia? Try Sri Lanka. Gorgeous beaches, cheap and empty because of the Civil War and really exotic. Just stay to the southwest around Hikkadawa and you'll be fine and dandy. Go on a safari looking for elephants, hang on the beach, have the best yellow daal on the planet and sun your brains out on endless white beaches.

Still a little too crazy? Vietnam. Once you get out of Ho Chi Mihn City, get toward the central part. Less expensive than the cities. Gorgeous white beaches. China Beach - lovely. Fantastic culture, great food, great art, easy to get around, quickly developing country (so you want to catch it before it goes the way of the rest of Asia).

pass to Indonesia; initiate in Bali, then to Lombok and then directly to Komodo Island........somewhat something different. once you're into Scuba-diving you're able to do a 7 or 9 day stay aboard and do all the above. yet another decision is going to East java and backpack/hike your way around Mt Bromo section. average, Indonesia is astounding, has many commute innovations, persons are friendly and it is greater low fee than maximum different international places in SE Asia.
