I am posting this question merely to see what others think. I mean no disrespect to anyone or anyones history.

At what point in time do we stop with Affirmative Action! I have recently applied to pharmacy school and was denied. I had an excellent score on the PCAT, excellent interview, letter of intent, etc. My counselor said that I was a shoe in. Well I was denied, so I went to the board and asked why? I said its because I am a white male right!! and they merely responded was that its just one of those things that happen. I later found that they had to fill a diversity requirement for the school. My sister has a friend that applied the same time as I. She was a Argentinian gal, (nice girl) however had worse grades and a lower pcat score.

When will the one with the best grades/ qualifications be admitted? How can we hope to defeat racism by having affirmative action.

The ones with the best grades should get into school first. You should apply again and if you do not get into school then you should take action-file a complaint of something-even talk to a lawyer. The only way to change things is to be involved!

A good PCAT and GPA will only get you the interview. Everything else, will determine if you get the seat.
Also, if you have a bachelors you'll have a better chance of getting in. You might think you had a good interview, but your interviewer might think differently.
I knew someone who had about the same GPA as me and a little higher PCAT; she did not even get an interview, but I did and got in. Why? The major difference was that I was involved in a leadership position in an organization. She had next to no ECs.
In Pharmacy, white males are a minority. My class is about 40% Asian, 40% white, 15% Hispanic, and 5% African American. It is 2/3 female and 1/3 male.
Argentina is one of the whitest countries on Earth.
Reapply and good luck.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you. I attended UCLA and UCSB in 70's. I am an Japanese American. My grades at that time were good enough I to get in on their own, I guess. What I saw when I attended at that time were students in "Affirmative Action" wasting their time by not getting good grades, or taking easy classes. I also knew some that were doing well and it benefited them to be able to get in school. I also knew some where they were trying hard but, it was over their head. Then again all 3 situations were true for those who got in on merit.

To me, it would be appropriate IF the person accepted was of the same caliber, grades, scores, etc. as those who were accepted via merit. To do it to comply with government "requirement" is silly and does not speak well of the school.

I think Affirmative Action has made it's point. Unfortunately, to require a school to have racial diversity by sacraficing quality of the student does not make good business sense or any sense at all. It's the governments way of saying "Well, I did my part now do yours" It is such a joke.

Over the years, I have done well. Never once did I feel I was turned down for the job because of race. Why not have the requirement for businesses? Do they? NO Should they? NO

Good luck in your pursuit of a Pharmacy school.

Unfortunately there are some careers where not always the best candidate wins, but someone who more reflects the changing face of society. Most western countries practice this, most just don't give it a name like affirmative action therefore it doesn't come across as negative.

It should just end.

Never will grade/qualifications matter most.

Racisim is perpetucated by Affirmative Action not defeated.

It will stop when people stop thinking that Affirmative Action benefits African Americans. The primary beneficiary of AA are white females, and by numbers they are the majority, not minority in which AA was intended.
