You're no football fan if you aren't big enough to admit that he is one of the best midfielders to play in the last 10 years. He's lost a couple steps the last couple of years, which happens to everyone eventually, but he's a phenomenal talent.
His notoriety is based on his past form, which is slipping away, sadly.

you obviously don't know squat about soccer. beckham is a brand, not a player. La Galxy bought him mostly because they wanted a piece of the beckham billion dollar market that follows David to every country he goes. Jersey sales skyrocketed, and sponsors were lining up at the home depot stadium. As a player he is what Cristiano Ronaldo is today, a fashion icon with a big ego. Beckham is the best passer to ever play the game, better than scholes, lampard, etc. He is one dimensional but when you are the very best there is no need to be great at other attributes. Teams like Real Madrid dont need an entire team of multi-dimensional players, just a few that can control the offense or defense. Every one else is there for one thing usually. Example, David villa is at FCB to score goals, thats it. CR is at RM to score goals and occasionally pass the ball ,and thats it.

David Robert Joseph Beckham is one of the most talented footballer. He is the best dead ball specialist in the world. Free kicks and arial passes are his strengths.
In August 1996, Beckham became something of a household name when he scored a spectacular goal in a match against Wimbledon. Beckham noticed that Wimbledon's goalkeeper was standing a long way out of his goal, and hit a shot from the halfway line that floated over the goalkeeper and into the net.
He scored some spectacular goals in free kicks. and his accuracy of pass is pin point.
Beckham's fame extends beyond the pitch; in much of the world his name is "as instantly recognisable as that of multinational companies like Coca-Cola and IBM. Beckham's relationship and marriage to Victoria, who had been famous in her own right as part of the musical group Spice Girls, contributed towards him becoming a major celebrity outside of football. Because of this connection, Beckham has been dubbed "Spiceman" by the Spanish press.
