I'm looking for new songs that are dark and moody, but aren't screetching metal... does anyone know any songs like that. I don't mind if it's an upbeat song, just as long as the lyrics are dark and it's not something from the 80's.

I'll go by band... It's easier... non screeching metal... might be a bit of dance...

Diary of Dreams, Theatre of Vampires, Therion, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Blutengel, Beholder (Hard to Find, More Epic), Graveworm (it's a little heavy, and screechy, but the interludes of the albums are amazing), Anne Clark, Joy Division, Old Cure, Cocteau Twins have some funky stuff, Goethes Erben, The Cruxshadows... I can't possibly list songs... but try digging up some of these bands, bound to be something in there. Ancient (has the grunt style Norwegian vocals, no where as bad as Cradle of Filth), Opeth... dunno. Some of the Pixies stuff might fit.

Best dark and moody track I've heard is by Woods of Belial - The 13th Horror... Greatest upbeat song with the most twisted lyrics I've heard... Scissor Sisters - I Can't Decide.

Nine Inch Nails
CheVelle
"Blackhole Sun" by Sound Garden
Flyleaf
Smashing Pumpkins
Trust Company
some Stone Temple Pilot songs are dark
theThursday album "War All the Time" (emo)
Unwritten Law's albums "Elva" and "Heres to the Mourning"
"Creatures (for a while)" by 311
some Pearl Jam songs are semi- dark or moody
The Incubus album "Make Yourself"
Hawthorne Heights (emo)

Next time you do a search for bands...type "Emo bands" in the search box...the style of music usually has sad, dark or moody lyrics and usually involves little or no screams, at least compared to metal it doesnt.

Listen to an artist called "The Hungry Ghost". He has a page on MySpace. Go to music, type in his name, and hit search. It'll be the first page at the top.
