mankind really has done some absolutely AMAZING things! i mean we have really come a long way!

...so why does it still seem like so many people are idiots? is it cause i talk to too many people on this site? or is it just a small percentage of mankind that creates these things and the rest of us benefit?

that is a good way of putting it.i was one of them kids that went right through the school system without learning how to read or write. i just kind of made it through and didnt realize the importance of all that knowledge that i missed out on until years later in college. ...im still terrible with grammar.

but i mean.. ive never invented one thing. imagine how complicated it was for the first person who invented something as simple as a cigarette lighter. it probably took a LOT of thinking and trial and error. there has to hav e been a lot of really smart people in the world for us to have all the cool things we do. ...its just the majority of the people ive known in my life havent contribued anything to society.

i wasnt a general. wasnt a colonel. wasnt a batallion commander. wasnt a company commander. ...wasnt even a loley platoon leader.

in fact, i wasnt even an officer. i wasnt a platoon sgt. wasnt a section sgt. ...wasnt even a sgt. ..i was one step up from the very bottom of the totum pole.. a specialist.

...im not exactly sure how to say this but the military isnt structured in a way that puts the people who think in charge. thats all i got to say about that.

I think that many of our modern day conveniences take away our need to think. When it comes to the formation of ideas, opinions, and world view, too many today are content to allow the media to do their thinking for them.

Of course, you also have the school system (in America) to contend with. Somehow, children go right through the system without ever learning to read and write. The public school system has become more of a day care center and propaganda machine than an educational system.

Well, I think that everyone is smart in their own little way. But sometimes, some people don't take the time or care to appear that way.
This can be because lazyness, or just thinking that if they seem as though there smart, then people won't think that they're cool or something. Like, come on! How many times, have we seen smart people--people who do well in school mostly--be labeled as geeks, nerds or dorks?
There are non-idiotic people out there. Its your job to find them.
But actually, a large percentage of mankind, helps to take large steps toward a better future. Its just that all of them aren't the heros.
Remember, first there are people that help the heros become the heros, and then come the heros. And its that percentage of mankind [that are the heros] that gets the credit and recognition.
And you know what? Its ok, that not everyone is smart, because the world needs ditch-diggers too! [if you're a ditch digger, I'm sorry, unless you could have helped it]
And your right, mankind has come a very very long way!

Knowledge is fruitful when it is made useful to others. When one uses the knowledge for himself alone he is selfish. The amazing this we see are the results of few good minds. Share the goodness we have in our mind. Small or big, doesn't matter.

I thing one among a thousand only may be thinking in the right direction. And that is the growth you see today. Just imagine the progress if more come into the track and think in the right path.

TO ease that, we should check with the classical Greeks. If we are close to them, we are doing well, otherwise we have to re-examine our "progress".
The first sign of progress, as you wrote is roads!
The roads, as we know them were implied by the car manufacturers, led by Ford. Thus, we scratch the surface of the Earth, creating damages never done before! You understand, we separate living zones, both for animal and plants and resulting destruction of many species; more species have disappeared in the last 100 years than ever in Earth's life!
Thus, we should reconsider the stand that we have accomplished progress!
Also, let us check if those progresses are to our benefit or to the benefit of the few who always are ruling!
So, maybe, those considered idiots might be still free while the rest of us are not! (Idiot is a Greek word denoting that the person is looking for his own benefit and follows his own way in contrary to the way of the majority)!

Thanks for the good laugh. I have thought that about the people on this site too, even thinking that I would do myself a service to involve myself with higher caliber people during more of my spare time. There is a certain amount of intellectual stimulation on here, even though many seem stupid and the problems with grammar and written communication sadly lack for some.

However, there are many amazing things in this world and there are smart people out there, even some on here. Many things were created out of necessity, people wanted roads that were smooth, lights to be able to do things after the sun went down, mobile phones to make communication handier. You need to realize too that it takes more than one person to create things so I think it is a larger percent than you think that are creative and innovative and working towards new and better things.
