I have an 'Industrial' in my right ear that I got done in February. I've had a couple of 'run ins' with it, literally. I had a box fall on it, I've ran into a box while someone was carrying it *long story*, etc. Now it looks like I have scar tissue on the outside of the piercing. Not where the ear starts to curve but on the outside. If it is scar tissue, how can I get rid of it and it it's not what it is, is it treatable and what can I do to get rid of it? I also have the tragus on my left ear and it's starting to do the same thing. If someone wants to help but doesn't know exactly what these piercings are, go to piercology.com and click on gallery, they have pics and descriptions under the pics. *Please no lectures* ~*~Heard it already from my mom~*~

They don't hurt, they don't bleed...they're just there. My jewelry can still move with no problem.

What you are dealing with is a keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Rather common when a piercing is traumatized.
There is little that can be done about it, however, if you use sea salt soaks and apply small amounts of tea tree oil to the area, the keloids should at least go down in size. Keep in mind you will have to do this everyday for 2-4 times a day. Simply apply tea tree oil to a q-tip and rub gently on the area for a minute or two and leave it, don't wipe the excess away. Once the keloid goes down in size, you can reduce the treatment to daily, but keep in mind that at anytime, the area can inflame again.
Another think you can do to help with this issue is for 2-4 months, use two separate CBRs instead of the barbells. It'll help reduce pressure on the area and the extra mobility will allow the swelling to go down.
As far as the tragus goes, consider changing to a different style of jewelry. Keep the area clean and try more sea salt soaks and tea tree oil.
Since I can't see either area to be sure if there is something else that can be done, go talk to a few piercers and get their opinions on the matter. Seeing is always good for something like this. Good luck

hmm I don't know about 2 scars But for my mom whos 57 nearly 58 (I'm 19) She has a vertical scar from under her sternum down to her belly button, and since they've had to open that up soo many times for similar and different reasons, I told her that the doctors should just install a zipper where the incision is always made. Soo after talking to her and convincing her I got her down to a tattoo place and paid for her to get a zipper tattoo done it even has a pull tab and an end... it's super cute and she's gotten nothing but compliments from doctors, nurses and surgeons alike. and it's done on top entirely of a scar line, so yes you can

Sounds like a keloid. You need to see a piercer... but one thing you can do, that really helped me out with my eyebrows (both were doing the same thing) I was soaking with sea-salt water twice a day. It shrunk the keloids really well.
Also, I went to see my friend who was a piercer and she replaced the piercings with shorter posts and i have had no problems since. Apparently, they were too long and moving around too much, never really healing and then trying to scar up. I have had them now for almost 5 years and no problems since then.
Seriously, the sea-salt water is amazing, but definitely see a professional piercer! They may be able to help!

I believe that is called a keloid. It is scar tissue. Some piercers have said to massage it well to try to break it up and reduce it. Otherwise I think you may have to have a plastic surgeon remove the scar tissue. That would be worse case scenario.

Yea, its a keloid. My boyfriend had one on his industrial, and we took the jewelery out, soaked it in alcohol, and cleaned the holes really well, and put it back in and the keloid went away. You can also put aspirin paste (crushed aspirin with a little bit of water), on it once or twice a day.
Depending on how bad it would bother you if it never went away, you could just take the piercing out - keloids will usually go away on there own then. I had one on my lip and wasn't going to risk it becoming permanent so I took it out and it was gone the next day.
