Though people can live according to stereotypes and thus see the typical criminal wearing similar gloves, realistically speaking this is not true. Also, I'd say that people get "freaked out" when you wear black leather gloves is because you probably wear them without a reason that they know of, ie. because it's cold. The people are just stereotyping and letting these stereotypes rule their perceptions.

Well, if it isn't cold, it is a little strange to be wearing gloves in general.
But I live in Chicago and black leather gloves on cold days are the norm.
