Well as others have said here already that sometimes its just very obvious,but by just asking you could get a very negative response. This holds especially true if there not at all attracted to you, and even then I've known a few to just flat out lie and say no!.
I've also found to be very true, that once you've been around enough gay people and if your also gay that you will develop what they call ( Gay Dar ) Well yes it is like Radar now that you ask.
When I first heard this I thought that ridiculous,but in a very short time I found I have Gay Dar,and 9 out of 10 times it's right on the mark. But if all else fails and there not a big *** biker, just ask them, they may be flattered either way.

most times you cant, but with femme gay males or butch lesbians it is abvious...i was so tired of hearing well you dont look gay ,lmao kindda your question backwards lol..i got a gay pride on my arm.just as a little hint lol..some gay people wear more ear rings in the right then the left,or just the right ear,some with a pride rainbow maybe on their shirt,stuff like that..Bye Deb

The ONLY way is to ask that person and hope you get the truth. It's REALLY not even your business unless you're interested in sleeping with that person, and even THEN it's not really your business!! Why do you care? Go find someone you KNOW is someone you could have.

Some men are obviously gay. They seem effeminate. But even then, you can sometimes be wrong. But with most gay men, you can't tell for sure.

what does it matter if a person is gay or straight?If they aren't hitting on you ,you shouldn't be concerned with their sexual preference.You need to stop worrying about every one else and try to make your self a better person

If you are ever around alot of them you just start picking up on it, like from half a block away. I am clueless about lesbians though.
