Do you tell outright lies? Or just little fiblets?

Looking back on it, it wasn't a big deal at all, but back then the following was what made me choose always to be honest.

Here goes :
When I was a kid, I once told an outright lie to my mom. (LOL, my mom was the "boss' in the house, telling her a lie was verrrrry tricky, so my sis and I hardly ever did to begin with)
She believed me, so I was somewhat relieved.
The next day she asked me a question about my "lie", and then of course I just HAD to lie some more...and still she seemed to believe me.
This Q&A-thingie repeated over the next two or three days (can't remember exactly), and I got caught up in my lies.

To my HUGE surprise my mom didn't get mad, but sat me down, and asked me if I had felt comfortable in her presence over the past few days.
Believe me : I SO hadn't.

She then said : "I KNEW from the beginning you were lying to me.
Now THIS is how you will feel every time you tell another lie....YOU choose if it's worth it".

I choose it was SO not worth the "agony" I had gone through for a few days, so I've never lied again.

I will tell a fiblet to avoid hurting someone's feelings, but I'm not a person who lies.

I try to avoid them all together. So some times I just say nothing. I know some people are pissed at me because I do that. But that is their problem. I value my integrity.
And I don't go around insulting people.

I see them pretty much as the same thing. I never intend to lie, but sometimes my human nature just gets the better of me and one slips out...usually in trying to protect someone.
