y = x - 9; given equation
adding 9 to both sides , we get:
x = y + 9 ; reason---if egg plus onion is omlet,omlet minus onion is egg,here 'y' is egg and 'x' is omlet,9 represents onions
y = - 4 ;given in problem
therefore; x = - 4 + 9
answer: x = 5
if y = -9
x = y + 9
then x = -9 + 9
answer: x = 0
Hope you understood it.

it says Y = X - 9 AND Y = -4 & Y = -9
it means at y = -4 and y = -9 what is the value of X?
You should seperate 2 values of X first, means, at Y = -4, what is X?
Y= X - 9
- 4 = X - 9
9 - 4 = X - 9 + 9
5 = X
NOW, repeats for Y = -9
Y = X -9
-9 = X - 9
9 - 9 = X - 9 + 9
0 = X
you have two values of X, X= 0 & X = 5

Replace the y with those numbers and solve for x...that's all you have to do. So, you get -4=x-9 for one equation and -9=x-9 for the other...now just get like terms and get x alone.

So, y equals -4?
What do you mean when you mentioned -9?
Ignoring that part where you randomly said -9, it would be this:
-4 = x - 9.
9 + -4 is 5.
So, x = 5.

Simply solve for x...
y=x-9. y=-4, so
-4 = x - 9, add 9 to both sides and get
5 = x
Similarly, for y = -9,
-9 = x - 9. Add 9 and get
0 = x

y = x - 9
when y = -4, x = 5
when y = -9, x = 0
