The real question is that if you grow up with moral theories that come from Divine Command (word of god) then why might you want to study ethics? ALSO what are some objections to Divine Command? Please only answer if you have something mature and intelligent to say.

Um..maybe I didn't make myself clear or maybe some people are just dumb but ....yeah WHAT ARE SOME OBJECTIONS TO DIVINE COMMAND? AND.. WHAT IS THE DIFFERCE BETWEEN ETHICS AND RELIGIOUS ETHICS? OH and while I'm at it don't answer if you don't think there are objections AND don't answer if all you have to say is the difference is religion (god). I'm looking for deep answers not "god is good".

I don't like the idea that any good I do is because of some higher power, it's fun to entertain the idea that some of those good deeds might actually be because of me. I just try and live a life that makes other's better, maybe when I die I'll be rewarded, and if not then atleast I made a bit of a contribution during my mortal existence.

People are always looking for an "excuse" to do good. What is wrong with simply helping others, why do you need a reason? I am a firm believer that there is no higher purpose. I believe in a higher power, not a religious figure just my own deistic outlook, and I'd like to think that there's a life after death. If there isn't then that's more of a reason to do good while I still can.

Just to clarify I define good in anything that has a positive impact on other's around you or just society in general, without causing major harms to others. I don't think anyone has the right to judge but that everyone has the obligation to stop anything that they feel is immoral. Those are my ethics, not counting a few details into equal treatment and escapism that I think may cause some conflict.

Ethics is based on respect for other people. I wouldn't have respect if I didn't acknowledge they were made in the image of God and have intrinsic value. I wouldn't know that if I didn't read the bible.

Do you know your ten commandments? If you do, there you go, you know your ethics.
