I work in Missouri as a waitress for the standard $2.13 an hour. Tuesday the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $6.50. I was wondering if my employer has to raise my wages. How do they come up with 2.13? is it a percentage of what min. wage is? she is trying to say that she doesnt have to raise our hourly wages and that the min. wage increase doesnt apply to the waitresses. i have searched all over the net and i guess i am not looking for the right thing because i cant find any law about missouri and waitresses or hourly wages and what they should be. any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you all!

Take the time to educate yourself and become more informed on the issue. There is no evidence to support your wild claims. Speaking of paying off friends. Who is the nations largest employer? Look at local, State and Federal employees all are payoffs in most case's. Unions almost always get paid higher than minimum wage. Also define "work", I am a brick layer and most of the Republicans I know have never "worked" a day in there entire life. Repubs. define "work" as setting at a desk and playing with the internet or talking on the phone to relatives and friends. $7.30 per hour in my State is chicken feed for a Woman with children, when they mostly don't get 40 hours per week and they don't get free Healthcare. As Obama has said health care is the economy's biggest problem.

Yes she is right. she does not have to raise your wages. I am a bartender and we have the same rules.
If I do not meet the " minimum wage" adding the 2.13hr and tips to make 6.50 hr the employer has to add that amount to make up the 6.50. ie You make 3.25 and hour with your tips and salary ( geez I hope you do better then that) Then your employer has to add 3.25 to make it 6.50. You see what I mean?
as a bartender though i make at least 25.00 an hour so my employer has to do nothing. If you with your tips make less the 6.50 an hour get another job , you can do better.

Minimum wage has never applied to waitresses. You keep your tips and get up to the minimum wage.

I am not sure about Missouri, but most places do not have to meet the minimum wage if you get tips.

Go to this webpage www.usgovinfo.about.com/blminimumwage and there it explains your situation. I did a yahoo search for "federal minimum wage" and this site was the 4th ranked result.
