If our troops are in Afghanistan, and we are fighting a war on drugs just as much as we are a war on terror, why is the heroin trade back up?

If the Taliban defeated drugs, and we defeated the Taliban, why haven't we defeated the drugs? Heroin is back to pre-war levels.

There has never been a war on drugs because to many people in positions of power are making money at the expense of the people that demand them. Humans are very weak willed.
With our technology we could fly over and chemically eradicate any vegetation we choose. But we choose not too. We could spray it, kill it and sterilize the soil so nothing would grow for years to come. We could be in and out before they knew what hit them. Within days the plants would wither up and die and the ground would turn to dust. We just need the right person to say "Do it" and the natural drugs would be gone. But then you would have to deal with the synthetic drugs.

If we do what the Taliban did on catching people violating their law, I bet we achieve the same result. We are just wimps, wring our hand, creating excuses and getting nowhere on war on drugs.

See the reference for how Taliban achieved their feat!

We aren't winning either war. Lets just hope the Taliban doesn't win any more wars other than the one on drugs.

Lots of beheadings and public executions. If they had that in America drugs would decline. Imagine tuning in for the Friday night execution on Fox News. Drug use would go down I imagine.

unlike the Taliban we aren't permitted to lead a drug grower into a soccer stadium full of screaming muslims and lop their head off.

We don't have great big guns on every corner. Wave a few of those around and I bet a few more dealers would be off the street.
