I'm not sure what kind of music you like so I will try to hit a few in each genre:

"Tears in Heaven" Eric Clapton (this one stands out the most because the death of his son inspired it)

"Go Rest High Upon That Mountain" Vince Gill (The death of Vince's brother actually inspired this song. However, most people think it was written in response to Keith Whitley's death. Either way, it's about as meaningful as it gets)

"Whipping Post" by The Allman Brothers (horrible real life experience)
"Free Bird" Lynard Skynard (written for the late, great Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers)
"The River" Bruce Springsteen
"Thunder Road" Bruce Springsteen
"Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit has Done Got out of Hand" by Waylon Jennings (true story)
"Outlaw's Prayer" by Johnny Paycheck
"It's Not Love, but its not Bad" by Merle Haggard
"Brokedown Palace" Greatful Dead
"Song and Emotion" Tesla (inspired by the death of a friend)
"I Walk the Line" Johnny Cash (written for June Carter Cash)

I'll leave you with that for now. Just about anything written by Paycheck, Haggard, Springsteen, George Jones, The Allman Brothers and so many more all have what you are looking for!

"Fire & Rain" by James Taylor. He was in rehab when a close friend of his was killed in a car accident but he was not told during his time in rehab. Thats why the first line to the song is "just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone" He wrote the song about his friend the day after he got out of rehab.
PS good question I love songs with meaning. Another song is
"Daniel" by Elton John its about his brother being in a war & losing his eyesight. EJ didn't write it but he sung it well

Coughing Colors by Tilly and the Wall.

It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The lyrics are so perfect. It's about society bringing people down and every time I hear it it just gets to me somehow.

Everybody Hurts by REM. I always want to cry when I hear that song. Or Chasing Cars by Snow Patrols , I could listen to that over and over.
