I don't understand equations or positive or negative signs?
Example 8x+2+6x+10

Can someone explain to me a simple method of solving equations and the positive and negative rules?

Adding and subtracting: You use the sign from the largest number.

In your example: 8x +6x + 2 + 10
All are positive. You have 14x + 12

Let's say you have 8x - 6x. the 8 is bigger and is positive so your answer is positive. It's 2x.

Now try 6x - 8x. The 8x is negative and is the larger number. So it is going to be negative. The answer is - 2x.

If multiplaying or dividing:

+ and + is +
+ and - is -
- and - is +

You must have to memorize those. Remember, it's always positive unless one sign is positive and one negative. Then it is negative.

Best Wishes,
Sue

Example 8x+2+6x+10
That's actually an expression.
An equation includes an "equals" sign.

Basic positive/negative rules:
When you multiply (or divide) two negative numbers, the product is positive.
Ex. -2 x -2 = 4
-4 / -2 = 2

When you add two negative numbers, the answer is still negative.
-5 + -4 = -9

When you add a positive and a negative number, the greater number has the dominant sign and will show up again in the answer.
-5 + 4 = -1
-4 + 5 = 1

When you're asked to subtract, the easiest thing to do is to change two signs: the subtraction sign, and then the sign of the first number that follows the subtraction sign:
-6 - -7 is the same thing as -6 + 7
9 - 6 = 3 is the same thing as 9 + -6 = 3

This may seem like a picky point, but it really isn't. You don't have an equation there because there's no "equals" sign. What you have is an expression. We can simplify the expression, but we can't solve it because it doesn't equal anything.

Simplifying it simply means collecting similar terms:

8x + 2 + 6x + 10 =
8x + 6x + 2 + 10 = (addition is commutative)
14x + 12 (addition is associative)

As for the "positive and negative" rules, I'm really not sure what you mean.

Equations is basically gotta do with grouping. Hence the working to ur example would be:-
8x+2+6x+10=0
8x+6x=-10-2
12x=-12
x=-12/12
x=-1

The basics to understand positive and negative rule is this:-
When you have a minus & minus, you have to add but the answer that you add, the sign will be negative. For example:-
-2 - 2 = -4
If you have a Plus & Minus, you have to subtract but the answer that you subtract, the sign will be positive as "so to speak, the plus sign is the biggest." Hence an example:-
-6+9 = 4
If ot's a plus & Plus, just add and there is no negative or posive sign. An example:-
9+9 = 18.

I hope this helps!!!!

8x + 6x +2 +10 = 0----get like terms (8x + 6x ) = one term; 2 + 10 is another term
Positive + positive = like terms
Negative + negative = like terms
Positive + negative = unlike terms
negative + positve = unlike terms
like terms add and write the common sign ,
unlike terms, find the difference and put the sign of greater number

ok the answer to the above question is 14x + 12.
ok say -2 times -5 equals to 10
-2 times 5 equals to -10
2 +-5= -3
If the minus signed numver is bigger than the plus number it is negative.
-2 - 5 = -7
but...
-2--5 = 3
Two negatives make a positive!
Hope it helped!

I am sure you know how to add.

so 2 + 10 would be 12

Now it is just like that only with that little doo dad. That x is called a variable. 8x + 6x = 14x
