I don't think its all about listening to the words. Its the sound. For me it is. I don't hear for some reason the lyrics when stressed. Its the sound itself.
Same like the sound of birds churping or the sound of the ocean helps reduce stress.
Some sounds help with stress.
When a baby cries why does he or she stop. Maybe its the sound more then the words. Its also good to go with your favorite music that makes you cheerful only.
Take care. Good luck with your answers.

Listening to music does not always release stress, it can also do the exact opposite and make you feel lonely and depressed when you aren't even aware that that is what it is doing to you. Music is great though if you listen to the right kinds. It can definitely leave you feeling happy and relieve some of your stress. Music does affect your emotions so you have to be careful about what you listen to.

Music is like meditation. It takes your mind to a different place, allowing you to forget your problems. Focusing on things other than what is bothering you is relaxing. The more time you are relaxed, the better you will handle stress.

It makes you forget all your troubles or worries because you are listening and caught up in the music.
Of course, there is some music that if I would have to listen to it - I would be wound up tighter than a rubberband in a golf ball!

It really depends on the music. If you listen to hard rap or acid rock you won't get any stress relief.

Technically speaking, it doesn't. Doing something that relaxes you and takes your mind off whatever is stressing you out relieves stress.

Some say it causes the brain to release endorphins - chemicals that counteract pain and make you feel better.
