They will stay until Iraq is stable enough to be on its own, and not a minute sooner, I assure you. The President still controls the military and both Democrats and Republicans can see the value of a reliable Democracy in the Middle East so do not expect them home anytime soon. Sorry to burst your bubble, I know you just want them out of harms way.

Just like Vietnam, it will depend on the people of the USA. The more pressure put on the government to end the war the shorter it will be. Most likely that would not be good for Iraq or the USA.

Changes have to be made but just to leave is not the way it should be.

As wars go for the USA this one is less deadly than any other. Most of you are not old enough to remember the big one that was supposed to end all wars. WWII.

Since that one there has been so much advancement in communications that now people can actually see the horror of war and do not like it. It is a case of too much information given to the public to see. Most of the time it is only the bad side of things.

If you really want to save lives then help do something about the deaths on the nations highways. They are far more deadly for Americans than Iraq is.

Latest projections state our troops will be in Iraq at least to 2010 probably more like 2012. Even though the democrats took the house and senate we will still not pull out because we have too much invested in Iraq and we have spent too much money.

Just because the Democrats won in congress doesn't mean that the war in Iraq is going to end any faster. We've still got a Republican President who has veto power and who will stick to "the course" We'll have to wait a few years.

Another 2-4 years until Iraq is carved up to three separately governed provinces. Basically, lines will be drawn to return the area back to before the fall of the Ottoman Empire during WW I and the Kurds, the Shiites, and the Sunnis will end up with their own province once again. Bagdad will go to the Shiites who will continue to harbor suspicions towards the U.S. but will be somewhat greatful for our removing Saddam from power. Kurdistan, the Kurdish province to the north that is western friendly like Turkey, will be our strongest ally there and we will establish a military base there to maintain a presence in the Middle East while ensuring the borders drawn up remain honored. We'll continue to enjoy their hospitality for another 20-50 years.

it's my understanding that there will be an attempt to bring Iraq's neighbors into the discussion in the hopes that they may help provide Muslim security personnel. there will be a continuation of training Iraq security forces. there's rumors of splitting Iraq up into their sectarian territories and negotiations into the distribution of oil wealth will be carried out. US troops might be pulled out of the cities and hot spots and used only as rapid response to catastrophic unrest. and a more noninterference approach in Iraqi politics is also on the table..

i'm not sure what all this means for the pull out of US troops. some of the ideas are new and MIGHT work. worth a try. the present course is a dead end.

A couple of years. The iraq war is going to last for 10 years, so give it to 2013 unless we start the partition of Iraq.

Until Iraq has a stable government. No one wants them there to be
picked off...But what disgusts me...I have not heard one gutless liberal condemn what CNN did with showing the snipers picking off our guys.

If anyone thinks CNN represents the U.S. interests you are sadly mistaken. They consider themselves a global network.

If you think the dems are a magical pill you are wrong too...
They are so far left....pelosi and her deep dark secrets...

Actually some of the dems that won....ran on conservative values, let see if they were lying. Good luck.....

No one except the left wants our Congress and President to fail, it is bad for America, however some welcome it, if it gives them
power. I wouldn't doubt some liberals wake up in the morning first thing they did was get a body count...they figured each new casualty puts them closer to winning office.

God Bless America and it's Armed Forces.

oh oh....I hear the ACLU knocking.

Hopefully, until the job is finished.

This will be the case if the Democrats are intelligent enough to realize the consequences of a defeat.

What? They're still there?

Actually, no time soon. The differences in the two parties is small; little except some minor details will change.
