Their main advantage is the physical strength of the case. That's it. For the same money you can find better notebooks by Acer, Asus, Vaio and Dell, that have more features and better disk writing capacity.

IBM laptops are good protecting the inner components,
it's protected against spills.
It's reinforced on the edges of the laptop, i think it's reinforced with titanium you can stand on it and it won't break at all.
In my opinion for my personal use i would go with DELL, they have superior customer support and make very reliable laptops.
In a business enviroment i would choose IBM, just because you have clumsy employees that find weird ways to ruin laptops and IBM has it way of protecting their laptops due to extensive testing and research.
And IBM laptops perform very well too actually, but again if it's for personal use don't buy IBM. I'm into gaming and IBM is not actually in the gaming scene to support my needs with a good videocard. IBM did make a good CPU for XBOX 360 though triple core CPU mounted right in there so these guys have potential

G'day,
We have been selling lots of laptops to business people in Australia. The 2 top selling brands in Australia are Toshiba and HP. Both have good after sales support and we have to sell reliable brands since businesses require reliable units for their busy usage. So far we are happy with their service. We got very few complaints and even fewer warranty returns.
I still say that you get what you pay. There are plenty of cheap laptop deals by DELL but lots of problems as well. I say Toshiba, HP and IBM will be a good bet.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

It's now IBM-Lenovo, I think. Thinkpads are valued for being sturdy and stable, perfect for business users. However, there are plenty of brands out there that look better aesthetically, offer more bang and options, depending on your needs. if you're a gamer/graphic designer, IBM is lthe last thing you'd get.

I work for one of the largest banks in the country. We have used both Dell and IBM laptops.
IBM is far superior. The main selling point is thier strength. It's a machine that really holds up.
I would much rather have an older t40 than a new dell.

ACER!!!! i've got been given an acer an it lasted tremendously much 5 years now :) the coolest of the record and at a genuine looking fee human beings$2,000 is the Acer Ferrari 4000 workstation workstation. With a graphite and pink end and overall performance that could rival maximum interest laptops from forte companies like Voodoo and AlienWare, yet with an excellent greater remarkable type in Ferrari, that's the perfect inexpensive workstation.

i'd have to agree with Blair, HPs and Dells are having power supply issues recently, and though the thinkpad is now made by lenovo instead of IBM, it's a very stable machine.
