I would like to hear from some one who had pallectomy (knee cap removed).

I think you have a chance because my older brother had his replaced after a serious high school football injury back in 1992 and was told he probably would either never walk agin or would need help(cane or somthing) but within a year he was walking and soon running cause he refused to give up.
I hope this helps a little.

Lets see you layed in the hospital and had this major surgery and was laid up in the hospital for awhile and seen doctors daily and never asked this question? Oh I know.Nothing is wrong and you still have your knee cap because this is your third time asking this same question. I had a knee cap removed 15 days ago. May I walk once recovered? What are the problems I might face?

Don't they replace it with an artificial one? The large muscle on my left thigh tore off a part of my knee cap 12 years ago. The surgeon reattached the muscle to the remaining knee cap with several brass screws. It took me about ten days to start walking outside again with a crutch and after another week or so It was healed and I've never had any trouble since.
The only evidence is a 3 inch long scar that won't tan and an indentation in the knee cap area.

I haven't had this done buit I have known a lot of people that have had knee replacements, hip replacements, I have had 3 disks in my neck removed and cadaver disks put back in with plating and screws. Also, I worked with Dr. for yrs. The best thing I can tell you is this: Do what the Dr. tells you to do. No more and no less. I have seen it over and over, people think they can do what they want to do. They don't wait for the Dr. to release them or to ok them to do certain activities and they end up not recovering as well. You can really put a damper on recovery by doing too much too soon. As you can also do the same thing by not doing the exercises the therapists tells you to do. This isn't to say that if it is really painful that you can't adjust it with their approval but, you will have to do the work and not do other things too soon. That causes more problems than anything else. Not following the Dr. and therapist's orders. So, just try your best to do what they tell you and if in doubt always ask. That's what they are there for. Good luck. Love coming your way and prayers.

I had no idea a whole knee cap could be removed. I bet that hurt like a b*tch!

Did they give you a fake one, or do you really have no knee cap now?

You really dont need a kneecap, it is only there to protect nerves and you will be fine, you can actually get another one put on from donor, who of course has passed on.

Yikes. Didn't you ask your doctor? I hope you can walk again! Sorry I can't answer you.

Why didn't you ask you doctor these things before/after your surgery?
