Texas was a part of Mexico and Southern Texas today is heavily influenced by Mexican Culture. This is why the Battles at the Alamo and San Jacincto were so significant. Texas broke away from Mexico and the armies underGeneral Santa Ana. Some of the main players in the forefront of that revolution were Sam Houston, Steven H Austin, Davy Crockett, James Bowie, Juan Segiun and others.

Well according to my readings in my Texas histroy book, chapter 6 in the Lone Star book states that Mexicans use to run Texas, but the United States was trying to buy it from them. Many settlers in Texas felt more close to the United State, because well....they were Americanand the United States, cared deeply about the nation and their founding ideas. The mexicans back then, just wanted the texas settlers to follow Mexican ways,by making them practice the catholic religon and all of that stuff. Now,I'm not sure why your Aunt was pissed. Maybe the fact that they use to run Texas probaly pissed her off.

Mexico invited Americans, and Irish to settle in Texas because only Indians lived there. So the answer is "No", Mexico never "ran" Texas.
It was part of Mexico and actually declared independence from Spain 17 years before Mexico.

texas was a part of mexico until 1848 when texas broke away and became an independant state. after that it joined the US. your aunt seems to have an issue with the idea that texas isn't the wonderful place she thinks it should be.

At one time Texas was part of Mexico. Mexico and the US went to war over it, Mexico lost and signed a peace treaty in 1848 (the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo).
