Yeah, there's so much to be grateful for. Since 2000, the Bush administration has:
1) Tarnished America's reputation as a world leader and global peacekeeper to a point that it may never be repaired;
2) Lied to the country about weapons of mass destruction so that it could illegally and unconstitutionally invade Iraq;
3) Put Americans TRILLIONS of dollars in debt that will take generations to pay off (if we ever can);
4) Killed 665,000 Iraqis for no justifiable reason, as well as almost 3,000 U.S. soldiers;
5) Disregarded the rules of the Geneva Convention;
6) Tortured 'detainees' in secret CIA prisons;
7) Neglected the needs of America's poor, sick, disabled, old, disadvantaged, hungry,. homeless and indigent;
8) Ignored the delicate ecological balance between plants, man and animals that allow us to co-exist on this planet;
9) Turned America into a police state wherein citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent;
10) Held the U.S. Constitution hostage while it took the law into its own hands.

I'm not sure what we "owe" Republicans. Are we safer? Not sure as they talk about the creation of the Homeland Security Department yet refuse to give more air towards Police and Firemen better radios and move to a plain talk radio between the two to help in a disaster.
The minimum wage has the least buying power in over 50 years. Inncocent people are having phone conversations listened in on, not so much because they are suspected terrorists, but members of moveon.org. Our military men and women are not safer as terrorists attack them everyday.
I am just confused by the question. What have they done? All they have really done is banned gay marriage in about 20 states and for a party that believes in less government they sure want to know the ins and outs of a homosexuals life.
The more I think about it I guess I do owe them a big thank you for believing that fear and misinformation would always be used to the benefit of their party, and not respecting the American public enough to believe that they would buy into that.

There were a lot of things that caused people to be turned off. Bills in Congress to outlaw flag burning while other bills lay on the table. Allowing the president to use signing statements, and did nothing. wound up pushing the torture bill through, so now it is rumored it will be challenged. To say nothing of the scandals, people decided it was time for change. There are a lot of good Republicans with good ideas, and they will survive.change.

Yes. The Iraqi Stalin is gone. Iran's main enemies are now not a problem (Iraq and the Taliban) which may be key in ending the dictatorships in the Sunni states. The US economy is strong again which is good for the whole world - it was near collapse six years ago. Oil flow to Europe and Japan will be stable for years to come - thanks mainly to the US and GB's (and others, mainly in eastern Europe) willingness to risk their young for the sake of a better world. The greatly flawed Kyoto agreements have been disrailed. The Syrian army is no longer in Lenanon. Lybia has rejoined the world. People seem to gloss over the good and concentrate on the bad - that hasn't changed and probably never will.

Holy Cow! The Republicans have proved able to be so Un American as to label anyone opposing them as unpatriotic. They are the worst examples of American values.
If history is taught accurately in our schools, the future history lessons will include the disastrous invasion of Iraq, and how Republicans mired this country in debt by refusing to listen to the will of the people.

They switched over because they saw the corruption too.
And definitely we don't owe the republican government gratitude. Gratitude for what? Their enormous elephant crap mess that they left on domestic AND foreign affairs?
