The only winning formula there can ever be in life is to let go of this ambition to win in life or in everything that we do, for nothing else takes away from the fun and joy of life than our own ambition to win.
You gain nothing by winning over from a best friend or even a colleague, just momentary gleam on your face. The best victory if there can be ever be one, is when every one who ran the race comes out feeling as a winner, a victor like you.
And that takes a lot of courage and commitment to live beyond your self concern and self preservation, and we work as a team, and live as one we are a winner no matter the result of mundane results might be.
So my advice do your best in everything you do, do it with all the love and courage you can muster in that moment and leave the results winning or loosing to the one person who knows what’s best for you in that moment – God, as sometimes you win when you loose and loose when you win.
And lastly never tire from expressing your love to one another, no matter what the temptation to not do so, as you never know, this might be the last chance you might get to do so.

Sorry, I don't think there is any "winning formula". Each person has to figure that out individually. What you are talking about is success, and everyone has to figure out how to achieve that on their own. What might make one person extreamly happy and content might make another sad and depressed. I guess the whole point of life and existing is to figure out how to make the most of your time here and how to make yourself happy and have an enjoyable life. But the best part is not realizing all these things, it's the lessons you learned and experiences you had along that way that makes the journey all the more pointful and important.

Formula? Recipe?
Perhaps not in equal parts but,,,
Goals
Tenacity
Perseverence
Motivation
Honesty
Honor
Selfless behavior
Self Respect
The ability to evolve,,,and make changes to the recipe, sometimes often, after tasting.
The ability to accept, tolerate, endure, compromise
Small sprinklings of selfishness, hard work, Humility.
Pinches of humor, "sugar", kindness to oneself,
Mix well, bake moderately, checking often the results, unafraid to modify the mix.
Serve initially at least, in small portions, judging reactions, prepared to accept that starting again may be the way to a better result.
Savor the Good, learn from that which is not so good, and never throw away the recipe.

Just Have a "POSSITIVE ATTITUDE", whatever the matter is - life, business, love or anything. You just need to keep an possitive attitude. And just believe that WHATEVER HAPPENED, HAPPENED FOR THE BEST, WHATEVER IS GONNA HAPPEN, IS GONNA PROVE 'BEST' FOR YOU.
