I got a much better offer with benefits, from a Fortune 500 company, and I'm ready to go! But theyre probably going to have a hard time finding someone to replace me. I thought I could work for them on a project-basis or part time in the evening. I don't want to burn any bridges, but they are probably going to be disappointed. How should I write my 2 week notice, what should it say, how should i deliver it etc?

First of all be honest on why are leaving.

Giving your two weeks notice to leave a job is not easy but if you play it smart it is not that difficult.

No one can tell you what to say but you. You of course should be professional but you should state your reason clearly because this job will probably be a reference check for your next job.

Type up the resignation letter on bond paper and give it to someone in HR (or your boss if need be) as soon as you can. You don't want the other company waiting to long for your to start working.

Check out the link below. Make sure you proofread you letter and of course try to be short and to the point.

I hope this info is helpful to you and best of luck on your new job!

Uh oh,, I have exactly the same problem like yours. I have a really nice job, with really great friends, but unfortunately it doesn't make good money. I've got a better offer but I'm afraid I'll make them dissappointed.

So my plan is, I'm going to talk nicely to my manager, explain that I need this new job since i also have to raise my carreer, and also my future. If they really care about me, I'm sure they'll understand. And of course after leaving I will keep in touch with them. And your idea about working part time for them is good as well. Just keep them as friends and don't loose contact.

Good luck for U and also for me ;)

Explain to your boss that you got a better opportunity. Give examples like salary and benefits. If your current company can't match the deal, they have no reason to expect you to stay.
