I heard that witnesses to a crime, or even people that were in the vicinity of a crimescene, could be hypnotized, and reveal information that's in the subconscious. Eg, everyone must have seened the killer enter, but instantly forgot his face, as he was just a passer by. Hyponosis can go back to that moment, and recall his face and such. Is this true? If so, why don't u ever hear on the news that hypotizing witnesses solved a crime.

You rarely hear about a crime witness revealing the perpetrator of the crime while under hypnosis because it is rarely even attempted by law enforcement, and in fact is largely a myth: the stuff of TV and movies. Besides, a witness who "remembered" the suspect's identification while under hypnosis would be a defense lawyer's dream, and it probably wouldn't stand up in court. Hypnosis is considered an altered state of consciousness, and it has been showed many times that the hypnotist can plant thoughts and false memories in the hypnotized person's mind. Also, rarely is the problem in solving the crime the fact that people were around at the time, but just did not remember the suspect. Usually, if there were witnesses, they give their accounts as best they can and the police go on that. It is then that others may ID the criminal when they hear about his description on the news.
