The same scenario is in Father of the Bride. I don't think there is a problem with it, but some people feel it insults them, like they are expected to stay home and keep house. Anyway, i think you have th eright idea...

She wasn't "wrong" just evidently had her heart set on something more personal rather than functional. She's thinking romantic and personal and, let's face it, there's not a lot of romance to a blender. He was being very smart in that he chose something they needed and he thought she would like, but if he'd added an inexpensive pair of earrings or something with it, it probably would've made her feel better. I agree with you in that a gift from the heart, especially one thought out (as this was) should be all that matters, but sometimes people just don't get that.
When I was 10, my main Christmas present from my parents was a pair of matching lamps for my bedroom dressing table. They were lovely and I really liked them, but I was disappointed that this was my main gift. I didn't stop to think what they must've cost and that it really was a lovely gift - but at 10, I was more into more non-practical items. I feel bad about it now. I think you sister needs to focus on the fact that he bought her something with a lot of love, and since they'd just bought a new home I'm sure money was tight, so he bought her something she could use rather than perhaps something she could wear.
She shouldn't have read him the riot act over it. I'm not implying that she's superficial, because I don't know her, but in this case I think she was just disappointed that she got something useful instead of sparkly! Hope things go better this Christmas!

Hi twisted...cute name!! Till your sis not to be too hard on her man. Im sure it was brought up in conversations that she wanted or needed a blender and he was just trying to get her something she wanted. Tell her to offer some suggestions to hubby next time a gift is in order. Usually men aren`t the best of shoppers and by having something specific to go for is a lot easier than looking for something she might like. You take care, Debi

Most women look at stuff for the house just that , I do not care if it is a bunch of dandelions as long as you thought of me I would love them. So I would suggest a blender with a small trinket in it

Your sister probally has her reasons for getting upset especially if she was expecting something else like a diamond ring. I would have loved to receive a blender, nothing like strawberry margaritas for Christmas (smile).

If I needed a blender, I'd be happy with it. I'd prolly be happy with it either way if my boyfriend picked it out for me.

I agree with you!
Sounds like shes a bit self centered.
He was probably trying to do something nice, but will now think twice before getting her anything again.....
