I am sure you meant "role model" so I will answer assuming that; Barbie is no role model at all, parental hysteria knows no bounds. Barbie is a toy that allows children to play. Try to relax....but also know that your attitude toward Barbie is what your children will emulate.

I don't think Barbie Dolls should be portrayed as Role Models but I think it's okay for girls to play with them. When I played with mine I never thought okay I have to look like this when I grow up...I was just Barbie and having fun. Of course Barbie got it on with GI Joe and He-Man but that's not the point. If anything should be taken off the shelves it's those damn BRATZ Dolls! I'll give my daughter Barbie before a Bratz! Besides I think most girls nowadays are leaning towards the Disney Princess stuff which is okay with me cause I'm a total Disney brat and some of the princesses know how to kick butt...lol

Well considering how it is physically impoosibble for a human body to look like barbie and be able to walk upright, unless that sed human was somewhere over seven feet tall. So when young girls are being drasitcally infulenced by a figure that is impossible to immitate and those that attempt to immitate it can have terrible, and life destroying side affects, yes I would say the Barbie doll negatively influences young girls, settting a standard that is impossible to naturally achieve. I mean maybe if they have a Barbie that was plausible then yes it wouldn't be so bad.

Considering that the doll appears to be a 'real woman' it's interesting to see the proportions.
According to the source I've listed below, for a normal healthy woman to match Barbie they would have to be 2 feet taller, 5 inches bigger in the chest, 3 inches longer in the neck and with a waist that's 6 inches smaller.
2 feet!?!!
:)
Anyhow, doesn't seem too realistic to me. And consequently I'd give Barbie a thumbs down as a role model.
Of course, that doesn't mean it isn't a fun or engaging toy for the imagination (but that's a different question).

To me, barbie is a negative role model and should not be called a role model at all. She always forcuses on her plastic looks and I wonder why young girls actually like barbie dolls. When my mom bought me a barbie when i was small, i quickly got bored of it. Toys are a form of entertainment and should not be called a role model. Although, i'm a big fan of electronic toys,(ds lite, psp etc.) i don't let them "show" me how to act or live life. I control my toys and they don't control me. Nor should i let anyone else get controlled by their toys.

In fact, Hollywood is more influential on children regarding body appearance vs. Barbie. What little girl would tell you that Barbie made her feel like she needed to go on a diet vs. someone like Miss Teen USA? Or, Brittany Spears? Or, Jessica Simpson?
Barbies give a little girl a chance to be creative and to learn social skills. Most little girls are not concerned about what her body looks like vs. Barbie's body. And if they are, it is only what Mom or Dad has told her.

I played with Barbies when I was a kid and loved it. I built houses for them and dressed them and had fun. I think television, commercials, talk shows, the whole thing about beauty is to be skinny is what are the negative things that young girls look at and believe that is what they are supposed to be like. It is all really about self confidence.

I think as long as the parents or parent take the responsibility of being the role model it doesn't matter. I think barbie does give the wrong perception of what a woman should be like, but it can be turned into a posative if explained properly.

Negative. Barbie is, I guess, perfect. Looking at Barbies as a kid kind of made me feel bad about myself.
Have you ever seen Barbie with a pimple? A zit? Any flaw at all?
Nope. v.v

i think barbie is just a doll and doesnt qualify as a "role model" or even a candidate. i played with them when i was younger and they've had no bearing on how i think women should look. the parents or someone that they can admire and look up to and pattern their life after should be the role model, not a plastic doll.
