If the first literate societies that emerged from the "Cradle of Civilization" (as Mesopotamia is often referred to) were able to observe the future in their region, would they do anything differently?

Mesopotamia is what is part of present day Syria and Iraq, a region torn apart by war. It seem so far removed from the land of scholars it once was, when knowledge was power and the great library of Alexandria was the destination of the philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician.
