Yes, this is very interesting. This was discovered at Cambridge University, it is because the human mind reads each word as a whole, instead of each individual letter. That is why we can still read it. Neat huh?

That was interesting. I read that as if it was spelt correctly. I suppose that we learn what a word "looks" like and the mind compensates for the variations. But as you so convincingly note, the first and last letters must be in place. Anagrams are tricky, because they mean something else, so the mind is blocked as to what other words can be made from the letters. Thank you, that was a most interesting exercise.

I read the whole thing without any difficulties at all . You wrote:
" It was said that you can read jumbled words no mattter what order they are in. All you need is to have the first and last letters in in correct places. Does this surprise you that the human mind still understands?"

The human brain is very complicated and capable of many things, just think how hard it would be to create and read IMs and text messages if the mind had to relearn the new language

I'm not surprised that the human mind must compensate for the short comings of others, it is something we all have become accustomed to.

No, I also agree that a lot of people spell bad, and we have to make out what they wrote. I taught 1st grade, and had to figure some writing out.

its something to do with our brains. it recognises the the first and the last letter of each word only. the rest of the letters, no matter how jumbled is stil intepreted as "normal" words.

No, it's kind of like selective hearing, only by reading words insteading of hearing.

Nope...There are many many things our brains do and we don't know yet that it doesn't surprise me.
BTW...my name means Beloved Summer Harvest, just to answer your question when you answered mine.
Thanks!
