I hope you breastfed for a year (at least).
Otherwise, you should wean the baby slowly 8 feedings to 6 to 4 to 2 to 1 to none. By then your body won't be making as much milk and it won't hurt as much to quit.

Your breasts will stop producing milk as you stop feeding your baby. You may feel sore and "full" for up to three days, but your body will realise what's going on pretty quickly. You may want to be easier on yourself and your baby by cutting the milk feeds down slowly. After your baby is about ten months old, they are getting old enough to have their solids before their breast feed. You can begin to cut out the mid-morning and afternoon feeds if your baby seems happy and full. Then slowly give less milk feeds in the day, and more sloid food. The evening feed will probably be the last one to go, and some women just keep this one up for the nice comfort and snuggly time with their baby. It's also good for the baby's health to keep feeding a little breast-milk for up to two years (as recommended by the World Health Organisation) Your breasts will only make enough milk for this one feed, if you decide on this option.
Don't forget to replace the fluids your baby would have recived in your milk, so he or she needs to be drinking more water during the day. If they're younger than ten months, they probably need to be switched to a formula, and you should talk to your child health nurse or GP about which one's best and how to do it.
Good luck.

Hopefully your breast is attached to your body, but simply put you just stop. You will stop making milk as soon as your body realizes that you are no longer feeding. In a few weeks you will dry up. Get protection pads so that you don't leak, but other than that, don't allow any suckling or anything with your husband because it won't help the situation.
Good luck!

DO NOT USE BREAST PUMP! if you use a breast pump to relieve the swelling it will take longer for your body to stop producing the milk. It was very uncomfortable for me when i stopped breast feeding but i would take 2 showers a day and run very warm water on my chest ( use a rag or a towel to protect you nipples) and at night i slept with a hand towel in my bra also i slept on my stomach with a pillow under my head and stomach so there was less pressure on my breasts it took less than a week for them to stop being sore. hope this helps good luck

It does hurt for a while there is no getting around it. You can use a cold compress. If you express milk out of them it will help for a while but don't do it because your breasts will only think they need to keep making milk. Wear a tight bra.It will help alleviate some of the pain. There are meds that you can take but I personally would not take them just because it interferes with the natural progression of things.

Well I know that I had 3 kids and never was I prescribed meds for that. The Dr said they don't offer that anymore. When you stop, your breast will fill and hurt. The nurses told me ice packs and cabbage leaves. Not sure but something in the cabbage helps. So they say. I did not have much luck with that and the pain was horrible. Good luck

Your doctor can prescribe medication to stop you from producing milk or you can gradually ween your baby. Gradually is better for you and the baby. Feed less often and for shorter periods of time and gradually put feeding farther and farther apart. For quick results see your doctor for a prescription. Be sure the baby is ready for a bottle. Good luck

Check this out....I say don't spend your time with medication. Slowly stop breastfeeding until you completely stop. If they get so full that they hurt just use a hot towel to relieve the pain or just squeeze a small amount of the milk out.

They will become engorged and very painful if you quit cold turkey. I would recommend weaning little by little gradually over a few weeks or however long it takes for your supply to end.
I nursed both of my sons once a day for a few weeks and then remember just not having milk one day. Then it was over. I missed the closeness of it, but at that point my sons were over one year old and getting restless and a little big (when I say big, I don't mean too old, but big as in heavy...) for nursing.
