You can get into most community colleges and some other schools as long as you have a high school diploma, but the more selective the school, the higher your grades need to be. The main advantage to having better grades is that they give you more choices - if you barely pass, you can still get into a few schools, but many won't take you. If you have a 4.0, you may still choose to go to those schools if you want, but you have a lot of other options.

The higher the better. It is not just grades though, it is also level of difficulty of classes. I would recommend that you also get into any and all clubs or events where you can develop and show your leadership abilities. It is not just grades that get, it is also how you apply yourself in your extra cirricular activies. The best combinations of these are the things that get you scholarships and free rides through college.

Each college has their own level of marks for acceptance. Find what you are interested in and then find a college that offers that specific program. In their literature they will state what average grade will be acceptable.
